What experience did you get?Gynae emergencies; gained confidence in specs, smears & swabs; 5 gynae clinics in 6 months; 5 ante-natal clinics in 6 months; 2 colposcopy clinics; loads of on-the-job experience. How much teaching did you get and how good was it?Weekly super, well-organised, bleep-free teaching for SHOs; weekly path meeting; Departmental teaching every Friday afternoon: usually useful, good quality, but you can get bleeped away. How many appraisals did you have? (There should be 3 in each 6-month post.)Thee. What was the on-call and rota like?No problems with the shift system. Workload variable but never unmanageable. What was the on-call accommodation like?Good. Did you manage to get to the GPVTS SHO days and see your GP Trainer during the post?2 out of the 3 GPVTS days; took 4 days of study leave to be in my training practice. What were the worst things about the job?Busy if 2 other SHOs are on holiday/sick leave. GP Educator's comments? All our GPVTS SHOs do the O&G job. Miss Diana Dunlop is the inspiring consultant who is the educational supervisor for our SHOs. She runs an excellent educational, GP-focussed programme. All the SHOs comment on the strength and supportive nature of the O&G team.
