Partnerships

 

o       pays well (£125k typical for full-time partner)

o       can pay very well if in lucrative practice (one GP admitted to me that he earns £160k)

o       you are one of the bosses

o       “the buck stops here”

o       continuity of care

o       job for life – financial security

o       usually 6m mutual approval – can bail out if it really doesn’t suit you

o       you decide on your working environment – staff, own room, premises, workload

o       being in a partnership is a bit like a marriage – can be great, or can become awful

o       satisfaction of 24hr responsibility for patient care

o       likelihood of increased flexibility with new contract

o       needs financial commitment

o       the thought of a long-term commitment can be daunting

o       can be difficult to vary your workload
