Assistantships

 

  • can be long- or short-term

  • continuity of income

  • and of patient care

  • good way to increase experience in more protected environment than as a locum

  • may get paid hols, sick leave, depending on contract

  • you’re part of the practice team

  • may be able to negotiate increase/decrease in number of sessions if wished

  • less well paid than Locuming

  • eventually you may want to start making your own decisions about how to run a practice

  • practice may decide it doesn’t need you
