Outcome-based education (OBE)
- specifies outcomes that learners should be able to demonstrate on leaving the system. The curriculum is then based around those desired outcomes.

The curriculum
Our Swindon/Bath OBE curriculum is based around the MRCGP examination's key areas. We provide links to our own on-line resources. Click on the links for details.
A. Factual (mainly clinical) knowledge
B. Evolving knowledge: uncertainty, hot topics, qualitative research
E. Application of knowledge: justification, prioritising, audit
F. Problem solving: general applications
G. Problem solving: case specific, clinical management
H. Personal care: matching principles to individual patients
K. Practice context: team issues, practice management, business skills
L. Regulatory framework of general practice
M. The wider context: medico-political, legal and societal issues
N. Ethnic and transcultural issues
O. Values and attitudes: ethics, integrity, consistency and caritas
P. Self awareness: insight, reflective learning, "the doctor as person" (not yet covered)
Q. Commitment to maintaining standards: personal and professional growth, CME (not yet covered).

Our trainers point out that all learning is expected to be, at least in part, self-directed. This should be supplemented by learning in any combination of DRC, the training practice or other sources. The following pages list the areas with the first choice area to supplement self-directed learning.
