Health of the Socially Excluded

This is the topic for next week’s groupwork.

By way of preparation (this won’t take long!), would you like to:

  • Have a look at the special themed edition of the BMJ (“Health of the Excluded”) dated 28 July 2001. Bring it with you, if you can.
  • Read the BJGP editorial “Developments in the provision of primary health care for homeless people” (February 2002)
  • Have a think about who are the groups of patients in the area where you work who find it most difficult to access primary healthcare. Your area may not have a huge homeless problem, but are there non-English speaking ethnic minorities? Or drug addicts? Or travellers? Or patients with learning difficulties? Or lots of patients with something like schizophrenia or dementia, who don’t have adequate social support?

That’s all!

Martyn
